Frequently Asked Questions

Running pace is the time it takes to run one kilometer (or one mile). A pace of 5:30 min/km means you run each kilometer in 5 minutes and 30 seconds. Pace is the inverse of speed: a faster pace means a lower number.
Divide 60 by your pace in minutes. For example, a pace of 5:00 min/km equals 60 ÷ 5 = 12 km/h. Conversely, divide 60 by your speed in km/h to get your pace in min/km.
For beginners, 6:30–8:00 min/km (completing a 5K in 32–40 minutes) is excellent. Intermediate runners typically run 5:00–6:30/km, while competitive club runners aim for under 4:30/km. Most recreational runners fall in the 5:30–7:30 min/km range.
Multiply your pace in min/km by 42.195 (the marathon distance). For example, at 5:30/km: 5.5 × 42.195 = 232 minutes ≈ 3 hours 52 minutes. This calculator does it instantly — just enter your pace and select Marathon.
