Frequently Asked Questions
VAT (Value Added Tax) is a consumption tax added to the selling price. VAT amount = Net Price × (rate ÷ 100). Example: £100 net at 20% VAT → VAT = £20, total = £120.
Divide the gross price by (1 + rate/100). Example: £120 including 20% VAT → net = £120 ÷ 1.20 = £100. VAT = £120 − £100 = £20.
UK 20%, Germany 19%, France 20%, Spain 21%, Italy 22%, Portugal 23%, Sweden/Denmark/Norway 25%, Netherlands 21%, Poland 23%. Most countries have reduced rates (5–15%) for food, medicine and books.
No federal VAT. States charge sales tax (0–10%) only at the final sale, not at each production stage like VAT. Oregon, Montana and a few others have no state sales tax at all.
