Frequently Asked Questions
In the US/Canada, 15–20% is standard. In UK/Europe, 10–15% is typical or a service charge may be included. In many Asian countries, tipping is not expected or customary.
Calculate total including tip, then divide by the number of people. Example: $80 bill + 20% tip = $96 total ÷ 4 people = $24 each. Use the 'Number of People' field above.
$7.50. Quick trick: 10% of $50 = $5, half of that = $2.50, so 15% = $5 + $2.50 = $7.50. Total bill = $57.50.
Both are acceptable. In the US, tipping on the pre-tax subtotal is the convention. The difference is small — on a $100 bill with 10% tax, 20% tip on pre-tax = $20 vs. $22 on post-tax.
